Sony Surana

Family · the Lego workshop

Off the clock, on the bricks.

Kids make up stories every day. Mine started building them — dinosaurs, robots, machines and even a prosthetic arm. Follow his builds at @creativedhairya.

The story

Kids make up stories every day. Mine started building them — and every year his love for dinosaurs, robots and machines kept growing instead of fading.

Jurassic World fan club

Dinosaurs, dragons & robots

Every phase of childhood has its favourites. Dhairya’s love for dinosaurs only grew — along with a surprising knowledge of each species.

The story that surprised us

A prosthetic arm made of Lego

The first time he told me about a boy with one arm who built himself a Lego arm, I wasn’t sure it was true. Then he showed us the video of David Aguilar, known for his Lego prosthetic arms — and started building his own.

We were astonished to see how deep he went with it. His first mock-up of a prosthetic Lego arm came together at the age of eight, followed by another, improved creation.

Gifts for Dad

Built with love, for me

Lego Ninja bike gifted by Dhairya

Lego Ninja Bike

Ninja bikes have always been my favourite — so my son gifted me one, with big rubber tyres, fold-out blades, hidden cannons, boosters, a digital control panel and turbo control.

Lego home gym set, a Father’s Day gift

Father’s Day Lego Gym

With every gym closed in 2020, Dhairya built me an entire gym: dumbbell rack, treadmills, cross trainer, benches, pec deck, leg press and a pull-up corner.

Lego Ultra Batmobile designed by Dhairya

Ultra Batmobile

Inspired by the Batmobile, upgraded by Dhairya — complete with a long-range gun that “shoots with double force”.

Technic & motors

Machines that actually move

Easy working designs with motors and Technic bricks — lockdown creativity that turned into real mechanical thinking.

Fitness · lockdown edition

When the gyms closed

Being a fitness freak, I went to the gym regularly. When the 2020 pandemic closed every gym, my son surprised me on Father’s Day with a complete gym built from Lego — so I could “work out from home”. Miss the gym so much!
